Dr. Gary D. Meier has practiced in the Collinsville, Edwardsville area since 1972. His is a Fellow in the American Academy, a Diplomate in Binocular Vision and Perception in the Academy as well as board certified Fellow in the College of Optometrist in Vision Development. Dr. Meier is one of only fifty optometric physicians in the U.S.A. that holds all three certifications. Dr. Meier has authored two educational series for Optometrist, “Contact Lenses in Behavior Vision” and “Behavioral Contact Lens Care” and has published over twenty professional articles. His experience in contact lenses has also been recognized by his selection as a clinical research investigator in contact lenses, contact lens solutions, and dry eye products by several international pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Meier was in partnership with Charles L. Friedman, M.D. from 1979 until 2008 when Dr. Friedman retired. In 2008 Dr. Meier combined his practice with Illinois Eye Surgeons and became an optometric physician with the group. Dr. Meier has participated in ten medical mission trips to Tegucugalpa, Honduras since 2001. the group takes primary medical, optometry, and dental care to the poor by setting up portable clinics in the barrios and rural communities of the country. To date they have given care to over 27,000 patients.
Dr. Meier is a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville, Illinois where he has been president of the school board and head of the mission committee. He presently sits on the mission committee. Dr. Meier was married to Diane Ferrero Meier from 1974 until her passing in 2011. The have three children Michael, Michelle, and Matthew Meier.
